Natascha Roth & Way Out South: German born South African singer/songwriter Natascha Roth will be singing songs from her new Cd ’Way Out South’ and more… Accompanied by guitarist James Scholfield and pianist Ted Brancato.

“A journey into a world of sounds and space, repetition and hypnotic rhythms. The South is a spiritual place within as well as a physical reality without. The New Frontier. A world of extremes where light and dark meet, where music heals and reconnects the spirit“.

New York

Working on a few articles for “America Journal” while spending winter in New York City. I have visited Jazz Clubs, walked the town from East to West and North to South. The Christmas decorations surpass all I could imagine! Central Park covered in snow is even more beautiful  and of course I also use the time to interact with some of my favorite musicians…

December 10th 09:
James and I were invited to guest with the fabulous George Mesterhazy (p)and his Trio in Cape May. George played with many of  my favourite singers like Rebecca Parris, Jeanie Bryson and the one and only Shirley Horn. I love and admire creative his playing!

December 12th 09:
The Natascha Roth 5-tet headlined the “Somers Point Jazz Society’s  Winter Jazz Series” with Tim Lekan (bass), Jim Ridl (p.), Bob Shomo (dr.).

We played a mixed repertoire including songs where Tim and I collaborated on his original material. I did get the chance to play some of my own more “harmonically intricate” songs, some of my favorite Jazz and Brazilian tunes, as well as a glimpse of “Way Out South”.

In January 2010:

Musik in den Häusern der Stadt - Berlin

In 2008 the festival “Musik in Den Häusern der Stadt” was initiated simultaneously in Köln, Hamburg and Berlin. 65 concerts were held in private and public places. All of them financed and presented by private and corporate hosts! This created a unique world of musical events in an intimate atmosphere without barriers and with special ingredients added by the unusual surroundings.” Way Out South” performed by Natascha Roth and James Scholfield was  the final “Abschlußkonzert”, the closing night, of “Musik in den Häusern der Stadt” in Berlin. The concert was held at the Museum of Natural History in the historic staircase, which is now the “Planetenraum”. Surrounded by illuminated planets the audience of the sold out event had the opportunity to experience the music of “Way Out South”. Music that traveled to the open planes of Southern Africa, painted pictures of hope, despair, suffering, love, friendship, courage and happiness.
MONEY MADE FROM TICKET SALES WAS DONATED TO “KINDERWELTEN”!

Xenolovehere

So many groups of friends and colleagues who have decided to stand up and throw their fists in the air in protest of the xenophobic mentality that has crept into our culture. And this Friday one such group is hosting a concert at St. Georges Cathedral.
Featuring Tina Schouw, Gavin Minter, Ernestine Deane, Denis Moses, Brian De Goede, Natascha Roth and James Scholfield the show starts at 20h00 (doors open at 19h00) and tickets are R50.
So get out there Cape Town; support your local artists; support your local communities; and spread the word of love!
